A Beautiful Mind Thursday, April 09, 2009 3:38 PM

A Private World, Vogue Italia, November 2008.

It's been a long while since I posted work by the brilliant Tim Walker so I thought I'd share some of his more recent photographic adventures.

Tales of the Unexpected, British Vogue, December 2008.

Chocks Away!, British Vogue, March 2009.

The Snow Queen, British Vogue, March 2009.

Andy Hillman designed the incredible sets for both Chocks Away! and The Snow Queen, while Shona Heath was the visionaire behind A Private World and Tales of the Unexpected. Both set designers have done a number of projects with Tim Walker and helped create the fantasical worlds seen in his photographs. I can't imagine how much time was spent putting it all together.

The Best Souvenir Tuesday, April 07, 2009 5:59 PM

One of my friends went to London and Paris for a week and she bought me a copy of Vogue Paris. I couldn't ask for a better gift.

A couple summers ago, another one of my friends went to Europe for three weeks. Everyone else got chocolates, but I received a copy of British Vogue and Greek Vogue. The same friend went to Hong Kong last year and somehow confused Cosmo with Vogue -- how he managed to do that is beyond me, but it's the thought that counts (personally, I think he wanted to read the Cosmo!).

My friends are awesome.

Lula: Issue Number Eight Friday, March 27, 2009 3:48 PM

Anabela tipped me off that the new issue of Lula was available at Presse Internationale, so I hopped on the 506 to Little Italy to buy myself a copy.

The following are some of my favourite pages so far. I thought I'd try something different from the usual way I shoot magazines while I was waiting for my grandfather at his house.

Nobody Sees Me Like You Do photographed by Marcus Palmqvist.

A Dreamy Day of Dreaming of You photographed by Metz + Racine.

This Side of the Blue photographed by Yelena Yemchuk.

Street Chic Thursday, February 26, 2009 10:58 PM

The March 2009 issue of Harper's Bazaar contains a myriad of photo stories. My favourite is the one above -- Street Chic shot by the great Peter Lindbergh featuring a bunny suit wearing Robert Buckley (does anyone else miss Lipstick Jungle?). The composition of the blue umbrella photo is perfect.

Lula: Issue Number Seven Sunday, September 28, 2008 10:34 PM

After searching up and down the streets of Toronto and popping into every other bookstore and magazine shop in the city, I finally got my (large) paws on the seventh issue of Lula at Presse Internationale on College.

Just wanted to share some images I liked after a quick flip through...

A Black Issue Wednesday, August 13, 2008 8:16 PM

Earlier this week, I stood inside International News on Front Street trying to decide the fate of my wallet: lunch for the rest of the week or the July 2008 issue of Vogue Italia ($37.29 after taxes). In the end I couldn't resist the lure of the elusive Black Issue. Even the store clerk knew it was special because he told me it was the only one he had.

Vogue Italia covers photographed by Steven Meisel.

Ironically, like many others have pointed out, most (if not all) of the ads within feature white models. Politics aside, there is some wonderful photography going on inside the pages.

Pretty imagery captured by Dusan Reljin.

I love the shadow play here done by Steven Meisel.

Crazy For Coco Thursday, July 17, 2008 1:06 AM

How much do I love the cover of the August 2008 issue of FASHION? The bright pink, the lime green, the white text, the gradient in the magazine's title, and Coco Rocha all wrapped up in one neat little package.

My only complaint is there are only two additional photos of Coco inside the magazine. The photos were shot by Miguel Jacob and styled by stylist extraordinaire Tammy Eckenswiller.

Also, how amazing are those Christian Louboutin pink fringe suede boots? Louboutin's have never made me swoon until now. They're not something I would wear even if I had the money, but they look absolutely stunning. Ever since I got a copy of this issue last week, I keep sneaking peeks at page 95 for these boots.

The above denim story, My Blue Heaven, was shot by Francisco Garcia and styled by George Antonopoulos.

Live Out Loud Tuesday, June 17, 2008 9:11 PM

When I opened the July issue of Flare, I was surprised to see such fun and eclectic styling on the pages of the magazine. It's something I don't expect from Flare (or any Canadian fashion magazine, really). The shoot was styled by Flare fashion director Elizabeth Cabral and shot by photographer Ishi.

Unfortunately I don't have a scanner and I couldn't find the images from the magazine or the photographer's website so you'll have to look at dodgy photos of photos instead.

.

My apologies for how slow things have been around here lately with the lack of posts. Things have been unexpectedly busy, but should return to normal soon. I still have outfit photos from nearly three weeks ago to post, which I should probably photograph first. There never seems to be enough time in the day to shoot what I'm wearing.

Christmas In My Mailbox Wednesday, February 13, 2008 9:53 PM

It's been like Christmas in my mailbox lately. Of course, most parcels are presents I bought for myself during random online shopping trips. However, today I received a package from the wonderful oh! the light today (thank you, thank you!). Inside were copies of the February 2008 issues of Vogue Girl Korea and W Korea.

This is exciting for me as I've never flipped through copies of either magazines -- I've only admired the photo editorials for Vogue Girl Korea on the internet. There's something thrilling about viewing the photography in a printed format. This issue didn't let me down. Look at this loveliness by photographer Kim Han Jun!

I wish I had a scanner so I could share the rest of the story with everyone.

Magazine Rack Monday, January 28, 2008 2:52 AM

Recently I was asked which five magazines I regularly read and which five I wish to read regularly.

After some thought, my answer for the five I regularly read is as follows.

Fashion
I think this one is the best of the mainstream Canadian fashion magazines.

Lula
I run around town searching high and low for every new issue of Lula. Not all the bookstores carry it or sometimes they'll carry one issue, but not the next.

Nylon
I have a subscription so it's hard to not read it regularly!

Teen Vogue
I left my teens many years ago, but I love looking at the styling. Plus it's cheap at $3.50 CAD a pop.

Vogue
Well, they call this the Bible. In all honesty, I prefer the European ones, but this one is the most accessible being in North America (and one of two editions I can actually read).

As for the magazines I wish I read regularly; there's a ton. Many of them are foreign magazines (which I can't read, but like to admire the photos) so they're either hard to find or they're super expensive (Vogue Italia costs $30 CAD). I can only spend so much on magazines a month before my wallet starts crying.

The magazines I would read if I had a bigger monthly magazine allowance:
Amelia's Magazine
Colors - not a fashion magazine, but I love the photography
British Vogue
Harper's Bazaar - recently picked up my first issue ever; some lovely photo stories
Numéro
Paris Vogue
Preen
Vogue Girl Korea - they always have the cutest photo stories
Vogue Italia
W

What do you read? Is there anything I should add to my reading list?
