Tinty Tints Sunday, April 19, 2009 6:43 PM

On Saturday night, a friend and I made a mad dash to the Superstore before it closed so we could take advantage of the tax-free weekend. I didn't buy any clothes, but I picked up a cheek tint and a tinted lip balm from Joe Fresh Beauty -- so much for the self-imposed lip product ban. I have yet to try the cheek tint, but I am liking the tinted lip balm so far. It smells so good that I want to eat it straight from the tube. It reminds me of Fuzzy Peach candies and I keep uncapping it to sniff it.

Lip Candy Friday, March 20, 2009 12:12 AM

Over the last few years I've managed to acquire a mini collection of lip balms and glosses. Despite my incessant need to buy new lip products, I always end up using the same tube of lip balm everyday (currently it's C.O. Bigelow's Mentha Lip Balm Stick seen on the far right). It's going to hurt tossing those barely-used $20 tubes, but they're past expiration.

What are your favourite lip balm and/or lip gloss products? Or do you prefer lipstick?

Trim Triminey Tuesday, March 17, 2009 2:58 AM

The last time my hair saw a pair of scissors was August so I was long overdue for a haircut. I decided to try the Aveda Academy thanks to Anabela's post and I left the salon with a great experience.

I wasn't looking for a change or anything drastic so the stylist took off my dead ends, reshaped the bottom (no more annoying "v"), and cut bangs again which won't stay that way for long because I'm lazy with maintenence (they always get grown out).

My hair smelt so good and was so soft that I couldn't stop playing with it all night long. These pictures were taken the day after the cut, before I washed out the flat-ironed straightness.

Tubing It Wednesday, February 25, 2009 11:00 PM

Three months ago, Matchstick offered to send me a tube of L'oreal's Double Extend Beauty Tubes to try. The tubing technology reminded me of Blinc Kiss Me Masara (which I've yet to try) so I was intrigued.

After using this mascara on & off for the last few weeks I came to realize I only like using the second step of this two-step mascara. Adding the first step (white base coat) made my lashes look a bit spidery and spider legs attached to my eyes is not a good look. Step two alone gave the illusion of my lashes but better, which is what I essentially aim for in an everyday mascara. Plus it held my curl and didn't give me panda eyes by the end of the day.

Beauty Tubes is advertised as a lengthening formula, but I didn't notice an increase in length with or without the base coat. My lashes are long though, so perhaps I've reached my maximum potential for length through both natural and artificial means. However, other bloggers had success with the mascara's lengthening properties.

Overall, I'm indifferent towards this mascara. If you plan to try it, you can sign up for a $5 off coupon on the Beauty Tubes website. See below for details.

Week of July 28, 2008.

This afternoon, in a cough medication induced haze, I tried to organize some files on my computer from my time at FASHION Magazine. During my internship, I had the opportunity to shoot the third item (usually a beauty product) for the weekly FASHION Loves section on the website. Thought I'd share some of my favourites on here.

The Scent of Peace Saturday, October 25, 2008 10:00 AM

When I was younger, So Pink by the Gap was my signature scent. For whatever reason I eventually stopped wearing perfume. On my last birthday, a friend gave me a bottle of Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea. Slowly but surely, I found myself spritzing my wrists again.

My current obsession is with Bond No. 9's The Scent of Peace. The first time I smelt this perfume was during a shopping trip with K-line where we stopped by their counter at Holt's. Since then I've acquired my own bottle and I cannot stop sniffing myself because I love anything that contains black current (Ribena, anyone?). It smells so, so, so good!

Currently I'm eyeing Daisy by Marc Jacobs simply because I love the bottle. What scents do you wear?

PS. US readers: After browsing the Bond No. 9 website, I discovered that you can order six samples of their perfumes for $15. I would totally do this if I lived in the States, especially considering how pricey their perfumes are. Have fun!

At long last, Bath & Body Works is coming to Canada with six stores set to open this fall (two will be in Toronto; Yorkdale & Fairview). No longer will I have to lie to the customs officer about the size of my stash during those runs across the border to replenish my stock of Black Raspberry Vanilla products.

Goodbye Natural Ice Sunday, February 03, 2008 1:39 PM

My favourite lip balm in the world has been discontinued. This is terrible news because I'm working on my last tube of the medicated version of Natural Ice lip balm. It's essentially Mentholatum in stick form. I do have one and a half tubes of the strawberry variety left and while it smells nice, it's just not as moisturizing as the medicated version.

According to the Mentholatum website, "Stock of Natural Ice Cherry, Strawberry and Vanilla is currently available at most Bargain Shop stores". Here's to not-so-secretly hoping the web dude forgot to include the medicated one on the list when updating the site. Now to figure out all the Bargain Shops within a fifty kilometer radius...
