Tue 04.28 & Sat 05.02: Poly Tulip Skirt Tuesday, May 05, 2009 2:23 AM

TUE. Peach blouse: vintage. Grey polyester tulip skirt: American Apparel. Blue belt: vintage. Black patterned tights: Manzi (gift from Hong Kong). Black suede wedges: Seychelles (gift from Solestruck). // SAT. Striped long sleeve tee: H&M. Bird scarf: vintage (from mammy). Pear watch pendant: Marc by Marc Jacobs. Grey polyester tulip skirt: American Apparel. Black knit tights: Calvin Klein. Grey suede flats: Zara.

Random, scattered thoughts:

a. This American Apparel skirt is a lot shorter then I expected. I knew that it was short on the model, but 99.9% of what's short on the model ends up being, like ankle length on me. Clearly I was too lazy to send it back.

b. Are the Calvin Klein tights a super dark brown or a faded black? I can't decide and neither can the friend who saw me in them.

c. On Thursday, I cleaned the Zara flats. Though they don't look brand new, they look much better then the condition they were in at the end of last summer.

d. I lost my balance and fell while taking the very last photo. I took my night table down with me and escaped with one bruise (brow bone) and two scraps (arm, leg). I am amazed that the Manzi tights survived.

I love the look of those skirts, but have resisted getting one because of the length. You pull it off really nicely. I adore both pairs of tights!!! So pretty.

Sushi | 2009-05-05 03:43 AM | Reply

Haha those skirts really are seriously short! I have to keep remembering not to bend over AT ALL when I'm wearing one. I really love your outfit btw - it's inspired me to wear my millions of scarves more x Sushi

AA skirts always seem too short for me. It suits you really well though. Shows off those awesome tights.

eimy | 2009-05-05 04:40 AM | Reply

the skirt is indeed short but it looks good on you.

your hair is really long!

how do you clean your shoes??

yulanda replied to Amelia | 2009-05-05 06:39 AM | Reply

Thanks, these outfits were all about the tights! I should've ordered the AA skirt in one size up. Maybe it would've been longer.

Thank you. This skirt is definitely a cold weather skirt -- so I can wear tights under it to better cover my tush!

yulanda replied to Anna | 2009-05-05 06:47 AM | Reply

Thank you.

yulanda replied to eimy | 2009-05-05 06:48 AM | Reply

Thanks!

I cleaned my shoes with a suede / leather cleaner then I used a brush to gently "fluff" the suede.

That skirt looks great on you. I love it paired with the striped top (but then again, I'm a sucker for stripes). The patterned tights are too awesome! Finally, I'm really digging how the whole outfit is pulled together by the scarf.

hope you are okay! have you gone thru much pain to take photos for your blog? i'm always wondering how you capture yourself 'floating'

Lexie | 2009-05-05 09:17 AM | Reply

i like that skirt ... i have it in my head that with tights, shorter skirts are more acceptable!

Alison | 2009-05-05 09:20 AM | Reply

Lovely tights! Being only 5'2'' I know exactly what you mean about skirts ending up down to the knees or ankle.

Ambroisine | 2009-05-05 10:49 AM | Reply

I love your tights, very nice patterns ! Awesome pictures as always :)

Owwwie! Just goes to show you where our heads are because the first thing that came to my mind was "Are the tights ok?!" Haha, seriously glad to hear there weren't any major injuries, though. I once fell off a swivel chair trying to get something out of a cupboard (stupid in the first place) and had to limp everywhere for a week!

I learned not to buy skirts or dresses from Forever21 without reading the dimensions first... They always end up being scandalously short on me, too. A nice pair of tights sure solve that problem, though.

Oh, and on my monitor they look faded black. :)

Girl, you are so amazing. I love the first combination of the AA skirt, it looks divine on you and different from all the other looks which I have seen so far with this skirt. Very Yulanda-ish :)

That skirt is really lovely! Love the tight too.

PinkBow | 2009-05-05 02:42 PM | Reply

they are very short aren't they - tights are definitely a must!

Liz | 2009-05-05 02:56 PM | Reply

love the vintage blouse in the first pic...both outfits are great! yes aa skirts are v short indeed, i'm really tall so they tend to be almost indecent on me!! always love your pics, sorry to hear about your fall!

Yasemin | 2009-05-05 03:12 PM | Reply

these 2 combinations are surely stylish, your hair also looks so good.
and most of all I hope you'll get better soon yulanda..

atomica | 2009-05-05 10:54 PM | Reply

the two outfits give totally different feeling.. one is sensual, the other is cute, young and playful :)
i think the second one is more like you in my opinion... i think it's the yellow pendant that complete the outfit... and the hair :)

oh my gosh, ow! The price we pay for art... ;)

SRR | 2009-05-06 12:46 AM | Reply

Wow...the lengths artists go to further their creations! Hope your bruises will go away soon.

I love how the skirt goes with the striped top--very nautical.

I also have a pair of black tights that have a bronzy/brown glow to it. But unless it's in direct light, it looks black. I guess it's both colors at once.

Thank you! Scarves are perfect for finishing off an outfit. That one is my favourite. It has little birds on it and it belonged to my mom.

missmilki | 2009-05-07 06:47 AM | Reply

Ow! Hope you're feeling better! Lovely photos as usual - I love both pairs of tights.

midori | 2009-05-07 12:55 PM | Reply

After perusing your blog, I just had to comment: you have the most impeccable sense of style. Seriously. The way you combine colors, layers, and just the individual pieces you choose are all so inspiring. You make it look so effortless, and yet I wouldn't know where to begin! I'm always trying to define (or just find!) my personal style, and I can't help but clicking back to this blog. Have you ever considered doing "style basics" (or rather, the basics of your style) or how-to posts? I would gobble them all right up! Thank you for all of your "little thoughts"!

yulanda replied to Snooties | 2009-05-26 07:55 AM | Reply

Aw, thank you! I wouldn't know how to go about doing a style basics post, but perhaps I'll tackle that when I return to Canada.
