Miu Miu bags always have a way to my heart. So what if I'm reminded of nuts & raisins (trail mix) when I look at this bag? The fact that I think about food makes it even better.

Sat 04.25: Black & White Tuesday, April 28, 2009 12:51 AM

White top: Club Monaco. Gold star necklace: Chow Tai Fook (Hong Kong). Black high waisted pleated pants: H&M. Black suede flats: Zara.

Super simple outfit for a warm & rainy Saturday, which ended at the grocery store where I picked up a big bag of Maynards Fuzzy Peach candies. It was bound to happen since I spent the past week using my Joe Beauty tinted lip balm.

Many Are Called Monday, April 27, 2009 12:08 AM

Since I mentioned Walker Evans in my previous post, I thought I'd share some images from his subway series for those who may not be familiar with his work. He shot hundreds of photos on the New York City subway between 1936 to 1941 with a camera hidden in his coat. Eventually the photographs were edited into a book titled, Many Are Called, published in 1966. In 2004, the book was re-issued and that is the copy these images come from.

Beau Grealy Saturday, April 25, 2009 2:51 AM

Photos via M.A.P..

Some beautiful work by Australian-born photographer, Beau Grealy. I love the subdued colours in the first two rows, the cinematic feel of the next two rows, and his overall use of light.

The subway photos at the bottom remind me of Walker Evans' subway series. I wonder if it was an intentional reference or not?

Tinty Tints Sunday, April 19, 2009 6:43 PM

On Saturday night, a friend and I made a mad dash to the Superstore before it closed so we could take advantage of the tax-free weekend. I didn't buy any clothes, but I picked up a cheek tint and a tinted lip balm from Joe Fresh Beauty -- so much for the self-imposed lip product ban. I have yet to try the cheek tint, but I am liking the tinted lip balm so far. It smells so good that I want to eat it straight from the tube. It reminds me of Fuzzy Peach candies and I keep uncapping it to sniff it.

Top: Lux (Urban Outfitters). Gold birds on a twig necklace: Moss Mills. Brown skirt: H&M. Green patterned tights: Dragon Centre (Hong Kong). Black suede wedge sandals: Seychelles (via Solestruck).

Recently I found a new woodsy area nearby while poking around Google Maps. It's still cold enough that the mosquitoes and other stingy bugs have yet to come out and play. I wish I brought my tripod even though it's heavy and somewhat broken. I had trouble finding elevated things stable enough to rest my camera on.

As for the outfit, I mixed my new shoes with an old top (circa 2001) for a friend's birthday. I originally put on my striped tee, but felt very autumny.

Adios Amigo Friday, April 17, 2009 6:54 PM

My mailbox exploded with goodness all week. It began with the arrival of my income tax return, followed shortly by my book order from chapters.indigo.ca. The last package to arrive were a pair of beautiful Seychelles Adios Amigo sandals courtesy of Solestruck -- thank you so much, Danielle! I can't wait to wear them.

Grey shirt dress: First Markham Place stall. Coat: First Markham Place. Grey ribbed tights: gift from Taiwan. Navy leather brogues: Franco Sarto.

The following conversation took place between my grandpa and my mom as he was seating himself in the car outside his house. The words were spoken in Cantonese so this is a rough English translation.

Grandpa: Aiyah! I shouldn't have worn this jacket. It doesn't go with my pants at all.
Mom: It doesn't matter, no one will notice.
Grandpa: I should've worn my grey pants instead of my navy pants.
Mom: Do you want to go in and change?

Meanwhile, I was in the backseat thinking how much my grandfather and I are alike. haha. & no, he didn't end up changing.

PS. Today it was finally warm enough to re-introduce this coat into my wardrobe.

Long sleeve striped top: H&M. Black cardigan: Uniqlo. Gold forest leaf necklace: femm.ca. Mustard yellow jersey skirt: American Apparel. Black cotton tights: unknown. Black jazz shoes (in bag): Dolce Vita. Cognac purse: Urban Outfitters.

A Beautiful Mind Thursday, April 09, 2009 3:38 PM

A Private World, Vogue Italia, November 2008.

It's been a long while since I posted work by the brilliant Tim Walker so I thought I'd share some of his more recent photographic adventures.

Tales of the Unexpected, British Vogue, December 2008.

Chocks Away!, British Vogue, March 2009.

The Snow Queen, British Vogue, March 2009.

Andy Hillman designed the incredible sets for both Chocks Away! and The Snow Queen, while Shona Heath was the visionaire behind A Private World and Tales of the Unexpected. Both set designers have done a number of projects with Tim Walker and helped create the fantasical worlds seen in his photographs. I can't imagine how much time was spent putting it all together.

Forest Leaf Wednesday, April 08, 2009 2:13 AM

Alina, one of the owners & designers behind Femm sent me a thank you gift in the form of a Leaf Necklace that I had been admiring. The necklace is even more stunning in person. For those of you concerned about the fragility of the gold-dipped leaf, rest assured that it's quite a sturdy little piece that will not break anytime soon.

If you missed Alina's comment on the original leaf necklace post, you can take 10% off your Femm order when you use the promo code SAVE10. Happy shopping!

On a side note, don't forget to enter The Clothing Show ticket giveaway! The contest closes on Friday night.

The Best Souvenir Tuesday, April 07, 2009 5:59 PM

One of my friends went to London and Paris for a week and she bought me a copy of Vogue Paris. I couldn't ask for a better gift.

A couple summers ago, another one of my friends went to Europe for three weeks. Everyone else got chocolates, but I received a copy of British Vogue and Greek Vogue. The same friend went to Hong Kong last year and somehow confused Cosmo with Vogue -- how he managed to do that is beyond me, but it's the thought that counts (personally, I think he wanted to read the Cosmo!).

My friends are awesome.

Stripes & Feathers Monday, April 06, 2009 6:12 AM

A friend & I spent Saturday shopping. Thank goodness for the Superstore's late opening hours because we were able to duck in after dinner. In the Joe Fresh section, I brought eleven items into the fitting room with me, but left with only one purchase -- the yellow leather flats, which my gift card nicely covered most of.

Q is for Quail Sunday, April 05, 2009 3:13 PM

Photos: qisforquail.com

Images from Quail's spring 2009 lookbook. Love the use of ruffles on the back. This blog has already od'ed on ruffles, but I couldn't resist.

Thu 12.25: Late Christmas Saturday, April 04, 2009 12:00 AM

Cream lace dress worn as top: H&M. Blush lace skirt: H&M. Oatmeal cardigan: Joe Fresh Style. Glass heart pendant: self-assembled. Brown textured tights: Wolford. Yellow heels: Nine West.

I just realized I never posted what I wore on Christmas last year. Even though that was three months ago, it's better late then never, right?

Yesterday, unlike today, was a nice day so I went for a walk. A shallow depth of field never seems to fail.
