Sat 11.29: Late Afternoon Sun Saturday, November 29, 2008 7:57 PM

Striped long sleeve tee: Gap. Leaf sprinkle silk dress: Forever 21. Grey-blue knit cardigan vest: Islander. Yellow opaque tights: We Love Colors. Navy leather brogues: Franco Sarto. Heart ring: Marc Jacobs.

My tripod is at my grandmother's house so I had to use an assortment of stools and boxes to situate my camera. I can't wait to pick up my tripod. It's like my left arm is missing.

Chandler Bing's Closet Saturday, November 29, 2008 3:12 PM

My grandfather gave this to me a couple days ago. It's a little bit big, but I took it home to see if I could do something about it because who says no to cashmere?

If I Had A Million Dollars Thursday, November 27, 2008 11:36 PM

I'm kind of really in love with this yellow coat from Anthropologie. If only I had an extra $458 USD lying around.

Shopping In New York Sunday, November 23, 2008 7:34 PM

Here is, no doubt, the highly anticipated post of my purchases from New York :) It's quite a hefty haul for only four full days in the city, but I did go with a list of things I wanted to get. The only thing I wasn't able to find was a wool coat.

Clothing
We Love Colors yellow 80 denier tights; Marc by Marc Jacobs grey wool & angora mix sweater from Century 21; BB Dakota plaid dress from Mini Mini Market; Forever 21 leaf sprinkle silk dress; Uniqlo black heat tech turtleneck, black ponte bubble skirt, and black lambswool v-neck cardigan.

Bags & Wallets
Marc by Marc Jacobs orange satin quilted bucket tote, plaid fabric zip clutch, and grey satin quilted wallet.

Jewellery & Accessories
Cheapie pink sunglasses from St. Marks Place; H&M black velvet bow bracelet; Marc by Marc Jacobs heart necklace, heart ring, silver key necklace, and heart mirror.

(yes, I went a little crazy at the Marc by Marc Jacobs special items store!)

Beauty Products
C.O. Bigelow Lemon Lip Cream, and Mentha Lip Balm Stick; L'Occitane 20% Shea Butter Hand Cream.

(I think I may have found something to replace my beloved and discontinued lip balm. Thank goodness we now have Bath & Body Works in Canada so I don't have to wait for trips to Buffalo to stock up.)

Magazines & Stationary
Vogue Italia November 2008; Muji blank notebook, and black pen; Moleskine New York City Notebook.

(I didn't know an actual Muji store had opened up in New York so I was super excited to stumble upon it, but was quickly disappointed to discover how expensive it was compared to its Hong Kong stores.)

Photography Things
Kodak 35mm film; 42" 5-in-1 light reflector set from B&H Photo.

Mon 11.17 & Wed 11.19: I <3 NY Saturday, November 22, 2008 8:22 PM

Worn on Monday; Black turtleneck: Old Navy. Velvet bow bracelet: H&M. Black bubble skirt: Uniqlo. Dark grey ribbed tights: Joe Fresh Style. Navy leather brogues: Franco Sarto. // Worn on Wednesday; Dark grey turtleneck: Old Navy. Grey wool sweater: Marc by Marc Jacobs. Silver bird cage necklace: H&M. Black bubble skirt: Uniqlo. Black ribbed tights: Jessica (Sears). Navy leather brogues: Franco Sarto.

Hello! I've been back from New York since Thursday night, but I've been busy catching up on my life. The time I spent there felt much too short (as always), though I'm sure my friend and her roommate were glad to have their living room back. They were very gracious about my friend and I crashing there.

While I sort out photos and get my film developed, I thought I'd post a couple outfit photos I managed to take while I was there. I was pretty obsessed with my newly purchased Uniqlo skirt as you can see. I went to New York with a specific image in my head of a black skirt I wanted to seek out and I actually found it. Amazing.

Above is a cheese-tastic tourist photo my friend took of me the afternoon we went to DUMBO (much thanks to Kate for the recommendation!). We also took up Caroline's suggestion to stop by Jacques Torres where I had the best cup of hot chocolate I've ever had in my life, no joke. It was like drinking liquid chocolate -- I'm actually not a big fan of chocolate but I do love my hot chocolate. The next night we went to Max Brenner and the hot chocolate they served there tasted watered down in comparison. Anyway, I bought a tin of hot chocolate powder for my brother so hopefully he'll be kind enough to share it with me.

PS. Thank you everyone who wished me a happy travel in my last post!

Sat 11.15: All My Bags Are Packed... Saturday, November 15, 2008 1:23 PM

Floral dress: H&M. Grey oversized grandpa cardigan: vintage (grandpa's). Necklaces: Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. Black opaque tights: H&M. Black leather boots: Joe Fresh Style.

...I'm ready to go.

In a few minutes I'll be off to the airport to catch my ride to New York. Thank you so much to everyone who left suggestions and recommendations in my New York, New York post! I really appreciate it. I'll try to update this blog when I can, but if I'm too busy spending money and/or stuffing my face, I will be back late next week. Have a great weekend, bye!

PS. I'm not bringing the 60s luggage with me or half the things in that suitcase, but they make for a much more interesting picture.

Wed 11.12: Ninetieth Friday, November 14, 2008 5:19 AM

Mustard yellow turtleneck: Joe Fresh Style. Necklace: Argyle Centre (Hong Kong). Skirt: H&M. Dark grey patterned tights: Fogal. Black leather boots: Joe Fresh Style.

Wednesday was my grandpa's 90th birthday and he wanted to try Popeye's so that's what we had for lunch. Later in the afternoon, we shared a crepe with peach and vanilla ice cream. He has the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know and to he will be perfectly content if a meal consisted only of dessert.

(We did the formal dinner on my grandpa's lunar birthday in case you're wondering about him getting fast food for his birthday.)

Graphic Skirt Wednesday, November 12, 2008 3:06 AM

Today was one of those overcast days where by three o'clock all the indoor lights had to be turned on because it was so dark. I hung around the house and finally took a picture of my H&M purchase that I promised Fruchtzwerg about a million years ago.

For lunch I had a bowl of Campbell's and an egg salad sandwich.

& now I am off to bed.

Wed 11.05 Thursday, November 06, 2008 10:27 PM

Dress: Erin Fetherston for Target. Corduroy short sleeve jacket: H&M. Green patterned tights: H&M. Navy brogues: Franco Sarto.

Lately I've been messing around with the Speedlite 430EX since the days have been getting shorter with winter approaching and the availibility of natural light is becoming scarce. Flash has always intimidated me so I've avoided using it for as long as I could. Hopefully by the time winter is over, I'll have mastered the thing.

Oh and the button on the jacket? It's actually an Oreo cookie* ;)

* I am kidding.

StyleSense Tuesday, November 04, 2008 11:46 PM

Photos: stylesense.ca

Over the last few years, a lot of American chain stores have moved north, but the one I'd been hoping for never arrived. Thank goodness for StyleSense because we now have our version of DSW.

Opened by the same company as Winners, StyleSense focuses on shoes and accessories. Like Winners, they sell designer and brand name items for less. But unlike most Winners stores, StyleSense did not disappoint.

During my visit at the Vaughan Mills location, I spotted Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, and Betsey Johnson shoes mixed in with Steve Madden, Nine West, and Jessica Simpson (who occasionally has surprisingly decent designs...like the Chloé knock-offs I should've bought two winters ago). Most shoes were about half of the original price.

If I wasn't saving up madly for New York, the Betsey Johnson Terra shoes surely would've came home with me.

This started off with Marni FW 2008 as my inspiration, but I'm missing a dash of brightly coloured tweed.

New York, New York Monday, November 03, 2008 6:43 PM

In less then two weeks, I'll be boarding an aeroplane and jetting off to New York for five fabulous nights. It's my first time leaving this city for an overnight in over eighteen months. Anyone who knows me knows that is practically a lifetime, because I've never been stuck in Toronto for that long; at least not since I took my first trip (DC & Virginia) at one & a half.

The friend (hi Devon!) I'm staying with is an amazing resource, but I'd still love some suggestions on food and shopping from locals and visitors alike! As for places to visit, I'm planning to drag the friend traveling with me (kicking and screaming, no doubt) to MoMA and the Guggenheim. If there's anyone into photography, I'd love some suggestions on interesting parts of the city for photographing outside the touristy places.

The photos in this entry are from my last visit to the city in February 2005. Hopefully this time won't be as cold!

Sparkly Twirl Tutu Monday, November 03, 2008 5:13 PM

Why does the kids section always have the best things? Sparkly Twirl Tutu from 77kids, American Eagle's new kids line.

(Every now & then I like to browse through the kids departments because I can more often then not fit into the larger sizes.)
