Tim <3
Tuesday, May 06, 2008 7:30 PM

I don't usually like to make off-topic posts, but lately my life seems to be a series of unfortunate events that have consumed much of my thoughts. Yesterday we had to put our not-quite-eight year old dog, Tim, down. He had a heart tumour that we were not aware of.
Seemingly healthy and lively, up until the weekend, Tim showed no indications of something being wrong inside his body. Last week he was still batting me with his paws, running around the yard, jumping like a puppy, and generally doing things characteristically Timmy. We took him to the emergency clinic yesterday where the vet took x-rays. He said the prognosis was grave and Tim's body was already shutting down. The best option was to put him to sleep so he wouldn't have to suffer. Everything still feels unreal to me.
On a brighter note my grandma might be released from the hospital tomorrow.

My dad took a photo of me photographing Tim in Saskatchewan (2005). I don't have a scanner otherwise I would post those photos.
I had planned to take new pictures of him when the weather was warmer. I had even been thinking of including him in some outfit photos so you could all adore him as much as I did, but I guess he'll be remembered on this blog with these pictures instead.

I am so sorry. :( Losing a pet can be surprisingly hard, and he was a very beautiful dog. At least you have some beautiful pictures so you can keep his memory alive. *hug*

I'm so sorry about your dog, recently my dog had to go to the hospital and they thought she had cancer, but in the end she was okay, but I know how you feel and I hope you can get through this!
BTW I love your blog and I would love to do a link exchange with you... what do you say?

Ooh nooo, I almost have to cry because my dog had a big operation a few weeks ago because he also had a tumor but my dog survived, I feel so bad for you that Tim didn't. A dog is just like a family member maybe even more because dogs are never complaining and never get angry at you.
Big hug from me Yulanda!

Dear goodness, that's one of my biggest fears. I'm incredibly sorry for what happened.
Nevertheless, thank you for sharing these wonderful (and excellently shot) pictures of such a happy dog! He had a beautiful life.
My best wishes to your Grandma, too.

He was a real cutie. I'm sorry for your loss. You did the right thing for him though. I waited too long to put my old dog down and I am still haunted by his unnecessary suffering.

It was definitely a shock. The first vet we went to on Monday only said the dog was in serious condition and needed an IV because he was dehydrated, but he couldn't help us because he was closing in ten minutes. It made me wonder why he became a vet when all he cared about was closing on time and it didn't matter there was a very sick animal in front of him. The five minutes he spent examining my dog cost $45.

I'm glad to hear your doggy is okay. It must've been scary. I'll link you up the next time I update the links — probably the weekend.

I agree, dogs are so loyal to their owners and are always happy. They're such amazing little creatures. I'm so glad that your dog's operation was successful. Hopefully now he'll have a good long happy life with you!

Please try not to be so hard on yourself. It's always tough letting go of a loved one. I'm sure that despite his pain, he enjoyed his last days with you.

We had to put our dog down last year. She was a black lab and 13 years old, a ripe age for a dog, but it was still hard. My condolences.

I wish you were here, Alex. Then I'd drag you with me to go drown myself in poutine now that my appetite is back.

Thank you Yulanda, I hope my dog will indeed! I have to make a post on my blog with my dog. She doesn't have the patience to photograph her very good (or maybe I'm too slow haha) but she deserves a post on my blog. Like an honour to Tim! ;)
