Sailboat print tee: 2% (Hong Kong). Polka dot silk scarf: Suzhou City Kaidi Silk Co. Ltd. (China). Brown skirt: H&M. Yellow tights: H&M. Fish flats: Argyle Centre (Hong Kong).

Reading The Clothes Horse's post made me curious; what do you consider casual? To me this is a casual look, but I know some of my friends think this is dressy simply because I'm wearing a skirt.

love the scarf and the shoes! the yellow stockings really finish your outfit very well.

I think this is stylish casual. Which is the best kind of casual there is, IMO. Beautiful photography, as always. I love how you've put those things together. They all work though the colours and patterns are disparate.

hi, just found your blog and really like it! and i understand what you mean with all this dressy-ness: i also tend to wear outfits other people consider dressed up that i find rather casual. i agree that the reason probably is the connection of dresses/skirts as dressy outfits in people's heads (no matter how they are styled)

Beautiful photos/outfit!

Thanks, K. This skirt is much more versatile then I thought it would be.

Thanks! I think I just had a creative spurt. Unfortunately, they tend to come and go! So I tried to make the best of it while I could. :)

Thanks, Anna! To add to what you said, sometimes when my friends want to "dress up" for dinner, I end up wearing my idea of casual because that's their idea of dressing up. Which sometimes drives me bananas because I really want to dress up!

Thank you :)

This is a really fun mix. The more interesting the mix the more casual it feels to me, when I go formal I go simple and usually with more solid colors and better structure. Also certain dresses just "feel" formal to me...

I'll never understand why a lot of people consider "dressy" to wear a skirt! ...In this case I'm almost everyday all dressed up!

yulanda replied to The Clothes Horse | 2008-05-10 06:10 PM | Reply

That's true -- there are certain dresses that always feel formal to me as well.

Haha, same here! If I wore heels instead of flats they'll surely think I'm going to a black tie event! ;)

Fashion Tidbits | 2008-05-11 05:13 AM | Reply

cute fish flats!
do you think we could trade links?

annah | 2008-05-11 07:03 AM | Reply

i love the depth of field in this!

i often feel over-dressed too- i agree with the connotation between skirts/dresses and being "dressed up"
but, if you look good, who cares?!

Thanks!
I've added you :)

& yes, you're right!

Very nice combination. I know what you mean by calling to look dress up if you're wearing skirs or dresses, it seems like that this kind of impression is too fixed in people's mind. I mean, hey I'm not wearing heels with skirts and dresses which are sparkling! It's for me just a simple dress with nice flats etc ;)
Keep on wearing your beautiful outfits not matter if it's considered as dress up or not.

Don't worry, I plan to :)

Basically anything that isn't flip flops or jeans or isn't all cotton, seems dressy to the people I'm around. Good use of accessorizing seems dressy to people too. But the plus side to all that is, you're always appropriate no matter where you go. When you look pulled together, you can basically go anywhere and do anything.

By the way, I love your blog, the quality of your pictures (maybe one day mine might be as nice) and I'm planning to link you up.

yulanda replied to aziza x | 2008-05-13 10:35 PM | Reply

That pretty much sums up dressy to the people I'm around as well.

& thanks! I'll link you up the next time I update my links.
