The Dress That Got Away Saturday, May 03, 2008 10:43 PM

The Clothing Show is currently taking place this weekend here in Toronto. Is anyone planning to attend or has attended? I spent a few hours this afternoon picking through jewelry and riffling through racks of vintage dresses at the Better Living Centre.

At the booth simply titled "Norma's", I spotted the most gorgeous 1960s pink silk crepe cocktail dress. It was a small size so I tried it on. With vintage, I have trouble finding pieces I like that are small enough to fit me. So what does this dress do to spite me? It wouldn't zip up! It must've been that sundae on a stick I had a few minutes earlier.

It made me so sad to leave it there and to learn that the proprietor works out of her home in Fort Erie. She had many lovely pieces that appeared to be great condition. It's a shame I'll only be able to check out her stock at The Clothing Show that takes place twice a year. And that's if she decides to continue to set up a booth at the future shows. Sigh...that dress...

(okay, done whining.)

Didn't go. (Probably can't tomorrow). I've gone before and didn't really "get it" though my girlfriend found a zillion things that worked well on her. How are the prices? Was it quite good in general, or just at that one booth?

PS - Liberty London Girl wrote about the Hardy shoes at Gap being out in NY. They might also be out in TO...

Seeing as it's 1:30am on the last day of the show and I still haven't received confirmation that we're going, I'm thinking it's a no-go. Too bad, I was looking forward to the Foxy Originals boutique.

Too bad about the dress! I have the same issue with vintage clothes, most of the stuff I come across that I like is too big.

The prices ranged. The booth across from Norma's had some great well-kept pieces too. They were both on the higher end, but I rather pay the extra money to purchase a dress free of pit stains. There were the odd gems here and there at the other booths, and there were the thrift store pieces as well.

I saw the Hardy platform sandal and wedge sandal at the Eaton Centre Gap a few weeks ago when I went to check out the Design Editions. There were a couple other styles too, but I didn't pay attention to those ones.

That's too bad, but there's always the fall one!

And I always thought people were smaller back then!

I was down in T.O. this weekend and didn't realize the Clothing Show was on until I was on the subway heading home, I was quite disappointed myself.

Well, at least they come around every six months!
