Sunny Day, Sweepin' the Clouds Away
Thursday, March 06, 2008 9:36 PM
Every year I fervently wait until the cheapie sunglasses hit the stores. With the spring lines moving in, I've been trawling the stores for new sunglasses. Why do retailers only carry sunglasses with their spring and summer lines? When the sun comes out after a fresh snowfall, the light is more blinding then the summer sun. Anyway, I digress.
I refuse to spend more then $20 on a pair because I always drop, scratch, or break them. I don't think having an expensive pair will encourage me to be more careful as some friends suggested. Besides it's fun to change styles and colours. However, I do have great difficulties finding frames that fit my face, specifically my nose and I don't find glasses resting on my cheeks very comfortable. I have a typical southern Chinese face complete with a typical lack of a nose bridge.

H&M made up for failing me last year and now I'm done my annual hunt for sunglasses. I bought two pairs and after taxes I didn't even reach my $20 budget.

Korean kids are always asking me why my nose is so big :D I think that Koreans also have tiny noses.
Today I wore my shades for the first time this spring and I felt that everyone was staring at me and thinking that I must be crazy.
I know what you mean about snow+sun. It is very dangerous for eyes!

I totally wear sunglasses when I'm driving and many others on the roads do it too. Sometimes it's so bright you need to have the shade flaps down as well as wear sunglasses.
I spent a fortune at H&M these past few weeks. I wanted to RSVP to the Flare and H&M 20% off evening but it was already full!

Also - Yulanda, where can I find a good selection of tights and/or leggings at cheap prices?

That's funny :) So I guess people there only wear sunglasses during the warmer months?
When I was in Hong Kong in 2004, I wore flip flops in February. It was already like 20C and everyone looked at me like I was crazy.

20% off! Wow, that's insane. And I thought my 15& off coupon was nice. Too bad the list was full by the time you RSVPed :|
For tights, I would suggest H&M. That's where the bulk of mine come from. What kind of leggings do you want? If you're looking for the footless tights variety, then H&M's Divided line has a ton in many colours (at least their Eaton Centre location). If you're looking for the thicker leggings that are like pants, then I'm not sure -- at least for cheap ones. My favourite pair was purchased from Giordano in HK. There's always American Apparel.
Oh, I've also heard good things about welovecolors.com. I've yet to place an order with them, but they have a large selection of colours for tights and footless tights.

im digging how thin the frames are. & i have a hard time finding frames to fit my face because i seemingly have a very narrow head...? i found some black h&m ones the other day that are pretty alright for six bucks though! i love sunglasses season -- nothing better than finding an awesome cheap pair!

Maybe they should start sizing sunglasses like shoes: regular, wide, narrow. One of the pairs I bought from H&M were $6 as well. I didn't know until I went to pay. I thought it would be $8 like the other pair. I love surprises like that when I'm at cash!

I'm looking for tights in general, but these days I've been on the hunt for thick, winter-appropriate pairs. I own one but I honestly can't remember where I bought it! I popped into Zellers and Shopper's but they only had the silky thin types.
Thanks for the recommendations!

Oh, hmm, thick woolly tights are a bit harder to find now because the spring stuff is coming in.
H&M might have some leftover stock, but this winter they lacked in their selection of thick tights. Most of my thick H&M tights are from last winter or the winter before that.
I purchased two pairs from Sears at the beginning of December. Both pairs are from their Jessica line, which I find runs a bit small because they're not super stretchy.
Good luck with your search! If you find some let me know. I could use some more winter tights since it doesn't seem like spring is ever going to come.

I love your finds. I have kind of a small head so I think those glasses will fit mine well - I have to check out H&M.
(And btw, I linked you!)

The ones I bought are from their Divided line which I found to fit my head better then the ones from their main line.
& thank you! I will add you back the next time I update my links. I've already added you, but I have to upload it.

haha I have the same problem with no nose and all kinds of glasses and shades. Some sit weirdly on the cheeks and most always slide down. I've been really lucky with my new pink ones.

I have the sliding problem, but as long as they don't sit on my cheeks and instead sit my almost-there nose bridge, I'm happy enough. I also have a problem with my eyelashes brushing the glasses and making my view an oily mess. blegh.
Your pink ones look fab on you.
