Magazine Rack
Monday, January 28, 2008 2:52 AM

Recently I was asked which five magazines I regularly read and which five I wish to read regularly.
After some thought, my answer for the five I regularly read is as follows.

Fashion I think this one is the best of the mainstream Canadian fashion magazines.
Lula I run around town searching high and low for every new issue of Lula. Not all the bookstores carry it or sometimes they'll carry one issue, but not the next.
Nylon I have a subscription so it's hard to not read it regularly!
Teen Vogue
I left my teens many years ago, but I love looking at the styling. Plus it's cheap at $3.50 CAD a pop.
Vogue
Well, they call this the Bible. In all honesty, I prefer the European ones, but this one is the most accessible being in North America (and one of two editions I can actually read).
As for the magazines I wish I read regularly; there's a ton. Many of them are foreign magazines (which I can't read, but like to admire the photos) so they're either hard to find or they're super expensive (Vogue Italia costs $30 CAD). I can only spend so much on magazines a month before my wallet starts crying.
The magazines I would read if I had a bigger monthly magazine allowance:
Amelia's Magazine Colors - not a fashion magazine, but I love the photography British Vogue
Harper's Bazaar - recently picked up my first issue ever; some lovely photo stories
Numéro
Paris Vogue
Preen
Vogue Girl Korea - they always have the cutest photo stories
Vogue Italia
W
What do you read? Is there anything I should add to my reading list?

I also like the magazines you're reading! Especially nylon, but it's not available in germany... what a pitty! Besides Vogue (Ger) my favourite magazine in InStyle! I don't know if it's available in CAN but in the USA, it is!

I can send you a copy of Vogue Girl Korea if you want :)
i'm amazed how thick the magazines are in korea and how many additional stuff (mostly cosmetic samples) you get with them.

It's great to have a rack for all your magazines! I guess this is a good tip for me, mines are just everywhere in the house :p

I think I've seen German Vogue once or twice at magazine stores that carry a wide selection of imports, but it's hard to find in Canada (at least where I am!).

Would it cost a lot to send? The postage may end up being more expensive then the magazine itself! My friend sent me a copy of Vogue Italia from Germany and it cost an arm & a leg for surface mail (I told her to wait until she visited Toronto in the summer to bring it, but she didn't listen). However, if Korea's postage is cheap like Hong Kong, I can paypal you money or send you something in return :)

I like to use the magazine files from Ikea to help keep my magazines organized. I need to find more space on my shelf for my magazines though! (like that pile at the top of this post)

I love your mags, and it's such a pity that most of them are not available in Germany and if they are offered they are so expensive! Price of Fashion, I guess ;)

I hate how pricey magazines are over here. It really makes me miss places like Hong Kong where there's lots of local publications starting at like $10HKD. But then I get frustrated because I can't read a word.

I just left you a test comment on your test post because I happened to visit exactly one minute after you posted it! However, I must be a slow typer because the post was gone by the time I submitted it.
You should consider subscribing to some of your favourite magazines. If you know you're going to buy an issue each month, you'll save a good amount off the cover price. I just got a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal at www.onefree.magazinescanada.ca.
Anyways, I don't read anything regularly these days but I still receive Lucky, LouLou and Self.

I was trying to figure out a pagination plugin for MT. I've been at it for two nights and it's driving me nights! MT doesn't have pagination implemented like Wordpress. Silly.
Unfortunately most of the magazines I read cost more to subscribe to then to purchase at cover price thanks to the "Canada/International add $X" fine print at the bottom. Currently, the only subscriptions that save me money are Fashion and Nylon (thanks to a really, really good promotion). However, there may be some new promotions out. I guess I'll take a look around especially now that the $CAD is doing so well.

Russh magazine (from Australia) is a pretty great read! Their articles are quite light-hearted and don't cover the same tired beats of many N. American mags. And a lot of their editorials are quite dreamy and softly sunlit!

Thanks for the rec! Judging from the photos on their myspace page, it looks like something I would enjoy.
